From Frustration to Innovation: The Story Behind BizzyCar and Its Founder, Ryan Maher
In the heart of Missouri, at St. Charles Automotive Group, a third-generation car dealer named Ryan Maher transformed a common industry frustration into a groundbreaking company—BizzyCar. His journey is not just a tale of entrepreneurship but a testament to solving a widespread industry pain point through determination, ingenuity, and vision.
The Moment That Sparked a Movement
The idea for BizzyCar was born out of pure necessity. During a busy sales weekend, Ryan was in the middle of the controlled chaos typical of a dealership floor when an email landed in his inbox from his OEM. It listed 42 open recalls within his dealership’s Primary Market Area (PMA). The only problem? The list contained no way to reach the vehicle owners quickly.
Ryan recounts that moment vividly:
“We were sitting in our conference room when I received an email from my OEM, instructing me to address 42 open recalls in my PMA. All I received was a VIN list with no straightforward method to contact the vehicle owners. Frustrated, I set out to find a solution, which ultimately led to the creation of BizzyCar.”
That frustration catalyzed Ryan’s mission: to build a tool that would empower dealerships to identify, contact, and service recalled vehicles without the traditional hurdles.
The Pandemic Pivot and a Clever Hack
With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing businesses to adapt quickly, Ryan tapped into online tools in an unexpected way. He began performing 25-mile online searches for vehicles listed for sale at local competitor dealerships in his PMA, identifying listings tied to open recalls. This hack—simple, scrappy, and surprisingly effective—was the prototype of what would become BizzyCar.
Rather than wait for a better system, he built one himself. This bootstrapped approach during one of the most disruptive times in modern business became the foundation for an AI-powered, automated recall management platform that now helps thousands of dealers is the United States and in Canada.
Built by Dealers, for Dealers
Ryan’s deep roots in automotive retail, working in both Fixed Ops and Sales, gave him unique insight into the operational headaches and lost revenue potential tied to open recalls. As both a dealer and a veteran (Captain, USMC), Ryan brought discipline, innovation, and empathy to the table.
BizzyCar was never just about software—it was about solving real-world problems in real-time. It was built to be invisible yet powerful, operating behind the scenes to:
-
Identify vehicles with open recalls (even those sitting on competitor lots, fleets, or customer driveways),
-
Match them with available parts,
-
Contact customers through AI-powered text outreach,
-
Schedule service appointments automatically.
All without requiring additional staff or training.
A Mission with Momentum
Today, BizzyCar stands at the intersection of safety, efficiency, and innovation. With the backing of a $15M growth round led by Dealer Tire and partnerships with major OEMs, BizzyCar is scaling rapidly. But at its core, the mission remains clear: to make recall management effortless and effective for dealerships while making vehicles safer for everyone on the road.
This commitment to safety and modernization aligns directly with national efforts. BizzyCar has publicly supported the NHTSA’s proposed rule to modernize recall communications—an initiative aimed at advancing Congressional mandates for improved vehicle safety and transparency. Looking Ahead
From a VIN list and a problem, to a platform trusted by some of the nation’s top auto groups, Ryan Maher’s story is proof that the best companies often emerge when a founder is close to the pain—and even closer to the solution.
